- Check the forecast before heading out on the water.
- Look up the tide tables to prepare for fishing, rock pooling or swimming. There is a beach or cove to suit all tides.
- Keep a Loop Head flora and fauna guidebook in the car or in your backpack to help you interpret your journey.
- Keep a rubber bucket in the boot of your car with togs, towels and wetsuits for everyone.
- It can get chilly along the coast and the weather can change quickly, so make sure to carry a fleece and light raincoat, even if the sun is shining.
- Keep at a safe distance when exploring coastal paths as there may be overhangs on cliff edges and sudden changes in sea conditions can catch you off guard.
- Bring a packed lunch if you are heading out on your own exploring Loop Head by land or sea. Make sure you let people know where you are going.
